Moving Toward Dynamic Technologies

Moving Toward Dynamic Technologies

Based on my philosophy of distance education, I believe that I have experienced both sides of the continuum as a result of my studies in this course. Of all the technologies that I have listed on both sides of the graphic organizer, I have had experience with the majority of them listed. I will have experience with Skype (which is listed on the dynamic side of the continuum) before this course ends.  This class has given me experience with the static and dynamic technologies.

  1. I am impressed with your list of instructional tools. I tended to be a little more general in my list, but your organizer really provides a great list of examples of tools to use. This assignment was difficult for me because so many technologies seemed to fall right in the middle of the spectrum. For example, Moodle (which was on my list too) provides several tools for students to collaborate and build new knowledge, but so much of it can also be used to promote traditional classroom practices. It seems that several tools have the potential to be dynamic, but it's really what the students decide to do with them that really decides where they fall on the spectrum. I teach high school; and while I feel that I do a better-than-average job of integrating dynamic learning tools into my classroom, I still feel like the activities fall flat when students don't take full advantage. In short, most of these tools only provide the potential for dynamic learning, not a guarantee.

  2. Sandra,
Through this class I have also had to learn to use many different tools. I was glad to see ones that I have used before. However, some had made me nervous because of lack of knowledge about them. Before this semester, I had never used a wiki, a blog, or Skype. So I feel that getting to know how to use these innovations will give me more tools to use within my own classroom. -Belinda V
I am sure your fish will never go hungry because I feed them every time I read one of your posts.

  3. You listed one of my favorite learning tools on your concept map, the SMART Board. I absolutely LOVE this tool and it is definitely dynamic. I think we need more tools like this within education because it combine content, collaboration and communication all together in one tool. It's also beneficial for both students and teachers.
